Menurut Ulrich and Eppinger (2004); New Product Development Process terbahagi kepada enam peringkat iaitu:

1. Planning
2. Concept Development
3. System-level Design
4. Detail Design
5. Testing and Refinement
6. Production Ramp-Up

Orthographic Projection

There are two methods of arranging the views. These are called 1st Angle Projection and 3rd Angle Projection. 3rd Angle is the most widely used system in industry.

Horizontal and Vertical planes are used to divide three-dimensional space into 1st or 3rd angles (fig. 1). An end plane is also used for the end view (fig. 2). The object to be represented is suspended in the 1st or 3rd angle spaces (fig. 3). In 1st angle projection, views of the object are projected back onto the three planes (fig. 4). In 3rd angle projection, views are projected forward onto the planes (fig. 5). When the planes are opened out flat the three views of Plan, Front and End elevations give the 1st or 3rd angle arrangements (fig. 6 and 7).
